Most people think the McDonald brothers of California started the wave of fast food in America, but in reality it was the White Castle hamburger chain that actually started fast food history in America. J. Walter Anderson opened the first White Castle in 1916 in Wichita, Kansas, and men loved the good burgers, fries, cola and he offered. However, fast food has become very common in America began only after World War II, when Americans fall in love with their cars, and had to spend their free time and more money for food.
The McDonald brothers
The real heroes of the story of fast food in America are Richard and Maurice McDonald, the two brothers who created the first McDonald's restaurant in 1948 in San Bernardino, California. They wanted their restaurant to be more efficient and less expensive to develop a simple menu in a small building with tables, so people took their food and ate in their cars. Until 1953, the brothers had decided tohis idea to open two franchises and franchise offices in Downey, California, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Imitation
As McDonald's has always been successful, others began to take note and copy their example, to take on the story of fast food in America. Keith Cramer began operation in Florida that Burger King would turn in and Ray Kroc, a seller of Blender, was so impressed by McDonald's franchise, the brothers asked him if he could sell. He opened his ownMcDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1954 and eventually bought his brothers and became the owner of the company. Kroc was the driving force behind the food chain is fantastic growth in America in the 50s and early 60s. Wendy's was created by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio, where the first restaurant opened in 1962.

Jack-in-the-Box began in San Diego, CA, in 1951 and in 1960 had spread to other areas of California. Troy Smith opened the first Sonic Drive-In in 1954 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Dunkin 'Donuts opened in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1950 and the first Taco Bell opened in 1962 in Downey, California. All these operations are at least loosely based their work on the McDonald's surgery and then changed as working with their special foods.
